Xiaomi introduces the Civi 4 Pro and global Xiaomi 14 Civi, showcasing exceptional camera prowess, innovative design, and a vibrant AMOLED display. Powered by Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, it excels in performance and gaming with UFS 4.0 storage. Despite software challenges, its 67W fast charging and robust battery make it a compelling choice in the smartphone market.
Xiaomi Introduces the Civi 4 Pro and Global Xiaomi 14 Civi
On March 21st, Xiaomi unveiled the Civi 4 Pro exclusively for the Chinese market. Recently, they also launched its global counterpart, the Xiaomi 14 Civi. The Civi series is renowned for its exceptional camera capabilities, and the latest addition, the 4 Pro, continues this trend. Beyond advancements in photography, Xiaomi has introduced several other noteworthy features. Let’s delve deeper into what these new models offer.
Innovative Design and Customization Options
The Civi 4 Pro blends innovative design with practicality, offering a range of seven color options, including three limited editions. Each choice is crafted from premium materials, with variants featuring either Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front and a glass back, or an eco-leather finish, depending on the color selected. The aluminum frame adds a touch of elegance to the overall design.
Measuring between 157.2 and 72.77 by 7.45 to 7.75 mm, depending on the back material, and weighing from 177.6 g to 180.9 g, the Civi 4 Pro maintains a sleek profile. The placement of ports and buttons remains consistent with previous models, ensuring familiarity for users.
Exceptional Display
The Civi 4 Pro boasts a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a silky smooth 120 Hz refresh rate, supporting 68 billion colors along with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for enhanced visual quality. Its impressive 3000 nits peak brightness ensures excellent visibility even in bright sunlight.
Compared to its predecessor, the Civi 4 Pro offers an upgraded resolution of 1236 x 2750 pixels and a pixel density of 460 ppi, delivering sharp and detailed visuals. The near edge-to-edge display achieves a remarkable 90.4% screen-to-body ratio, one of the highest among Android smartphones.
In terms of performance, the display excels with support for 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, ensuring vibrant colors and exceptional contrast. The panel also maintains sharp viewing angles, making it a standout choice in its price category.
Advanced Camera System
Xiaomi’s Civi 4 Pro showcases a sophisticated camera setup that includes five lenses—three on the rear and two on the front. The main rear camera boasts a 50 MP sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and a Leica Summilux lens, renowned for its consistent color rendition and quality. It is complemented by a 50 MP telephoto lens and a 12 MP ultrawide lens, offering versatility in capturing different perspectives.
On the front, dual 32 MP cameras include a standard and a wide-angle lens, catering to various selfie preferences and scenarios.
The Civi 4 Pro addresses previous concerns about color accuracy across different zoom levels, delivering consistent results from ultrawide to lossless zoom. It excels in capturing dynamic range in daylight and has significantly improved night mode capabilities, although lens flare remains a minor issue.
The addition of a dedicated ultrawide front camera sets it apart from many competitors, enhancing creative possibilities.
For videography, the Civi 4 Pro supports impressive resolutions and frame rates up to 4K at 60fps, with HDR10+ and 10-bit codec support for smooth playback, ensuring high-quality video capture.
Software Experience
The Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro runs on HyperOS, which is essentially a reimagined version of MIUI based on Android 14. While it retains the familiar MIUI DNA, it also inherits some long standing issues, such as noticeable bloatware and occasional clunkiness in the user interface.
One notable improvement is the native support for Google Services, although users may need to manually download them. Despite this, compatibility issues with certain Play Store apps persist, affecting overall usability on the OS.
Battery and Charging Performance
The Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro is equipped with a 4700 mAh battery, which may seem modest considering its size. However, Xiaomi addresses this with 67W wired fast charging capability, allowing the device to reach full charge in just 40 minutes.
Powerful Performance and Gaming Capabilities
The Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro is equipped with the latest Qualcomm SM8635 Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, built on a 4nm architecture. This chipset features a combination of powerful cores: 1×3.0 GHz Cortex-X4, 4×2.8 GHz Cortex-A720, and 3×2.0 GHz Cortex-A520, along with an Adreno 735 GPU.
During performance tests, the 8s Gen 3 processor demonstrated performance comparable to last year’s 8 Gen 2, with minor enhancements. It handled most games smoothly at the highest settings, although prolonged gaming sessions caused noticeable heat buildup.
The inclusion of UFS 4.0 storage on the Civi 4 Pro offers improved speed and responsiveness, enhancing overall user experience. However, potential performance concerns may arise due to the 4 MB L3 cache configuration.
Benchmark Performance Comparison
The Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro achieves benchmark scores of 1,504,192 in Antutu, 1,463 for single-core and 4,678 for multi-core in Geekbench 5, and 3,361 in 3D Mark Wild Life. However, it lags behind the Xiaomi 13 with an 8 Gen 2 processor and the Xiaomi 14 with an 8 Gen 3 processor in absolute benchmark results.
